WHAT a weekend it turned out to be for Flint’s football clubs.

Flint Mountain and Flint Town United both reached the last-16 in dramatic circumstances.

Tier three Mountain progressed courtesy of their 2-1 triumph at home to Canton Liberal.

Thierry Otu had the visitors in front after 36 minutes, but this lead would last just two minutes as Jack Sconce set up Rob Hughes for the leveller.

Aaron Simpson bagged the winner just shy of the hour-mark, with Hughes supplying the assist for Aden Shannon’s side, who are also chasing glory in the Welsh Trophy.

Goalkeeper Rhys Williams was the hero as Flint Town United won 8-7 in their penalty shootout at Bangor 1876 following a 1-1 outcome.

Williams saved Cai Powell Roberts’ penalty to make sure the Silkmen progressed.

Elliott Reeves had handed Lee Fowler’s charges the lead midway through the second half, but Carl Jones’ stoppage time strike hauled Bangor level.

Continuing the good news for Flintshire clubs, Buckley Town made it through via a hard-fought 2-1 triumph at Llanuwchllyn.

Captain Garmon Hafal gave Ardal North East League Llanuwchllyn the lead after 41 minutes, but Buckley responded before the break.

Josh Dunroe slotted in the equaliser, before Aled Bellis set up Callum Humphries for the decisive strike midway through the second period.

Airbus were pipped 2-1 in their home meeting with Briton Ferry Llansawel.

It was a battle of the clubs currently sitting second in Cymru North and Cymru South, with Oli Lanceley supplying the assist for Jordan Evans’ goal to give the Wingmakers the advantage at the midway point.

Back came Briton Ferry, though, with Luke Bowen netting twice in the second period, the second coming from the penalty spot.

There was a late chance for Airbus to get themselves back into the tie, but Craig Lindfield’s header went just wide of the target.

Airbus boss Mark Allen told S4C’s Sgorio: “We should have taken the game away from them in the first half.

“I thought we were excellent in the first half. You know, three, four chances I can recall hitting the bar.”

Brave Mold Alex lost out 2-1 during their trip to Cymru Premier League Cardiff Met.

Eliot Evans put the top flight side in the box seat and he also spurned an opportunity from the penalty spot.

Sam Jones doubled Met’s advantage four minutes before half-time, while Mold made a real game of it as Jake Roberts netted from the penalty spot early in the second half.

Mold did manage to put the ball into the net once more in stoppage time, but this effort was ruled out for offside.

Alex boss Mike Cunningham told Sgorio: “You look at the league standings, they're the third best team in Wales and at times, we competed with them.

“We moved the ball quite well. Just a little bit of naivety from us from their goals, but it’s something we can learn from and work on going forward.”

The New Saints eased into the last-16 courtesy of a comfortable 7-0 outcome at home to Trethomas Bluebirds. Gwion Dafydd grabbed a hat-trick for Craig Harrison’s side.

Iwan Roberts’ goal 10 minutes from time gave Bala Town a 1-0 verdict at Aberystwyth Town, while Colwyn Bay made it through on penalties at Newtown.

Aaron Williams had Chris Hughes’ hosts in the lead, with Jamie Cumming netting the Seagulls’ equaliser.

Barry Town United edged out Guilsfield 1-0 courtesy of Sam Snaith’s stoppage time strike and it finished up 2-0 in favour of Haverfordwest County in their home clash with Ammanford.
