PAUL MULLIN hit back at suggestions he came back from a serious injury too soon but the striker insists there is more to come from him.
The striker suffered a collapsed lung and four broken ribs during the club's pre-season tour of America and missed Wrexham's return to the Football League.
It was feared Mullin could be out for months but the 28-year-old made his comeback as a substitute in the 2-1 home win against Doncaster in League Two on September 9.
Mullin has featured in every game since then with his first goals of the campaign coming on Saturday when he bagged a brace in the 3-3 draw with Crewe Alexandra at The Racecourse.
Deprived of a full pre-season, that was Mullin's first 90 minute run-out since April and he feels he will get sharper by the match.
"I haven't played 90 minutes for a long time," said the 28-year-old.
"It is frustrating, it is the first injury I have had to keep me out for more than a week I think which is tough.
"But I have got brilliant staff who told me when I was ready; even though I was still feeling things sometimes, they reassured me that everything was good to go.
"I am pretty sure there have been a lot of doctors online talking nonsense saying I am back prematurely but I have paid no attention to that.
"I think I came back a lot quicker than I was expected to but the only way to get the sharpness back is by playing games.
"Thankfully I managed to score two goals to help us get a point."
Mullin, who made his 100th appearance for Wrexham in the 5-0 defeat at Stockport the previous weekend, says there is a lot more to come from him.
"Obviously it is disappointing when you get injured," he added. "It is something you can't control.
"It has been tough. I think the toughest thing has been everyone expects me to come back and be where I was instantly.
"That's not how football works.
"I have had to get fit playing games and I am still not where I want to be.
"I have just got to trust in the process. It is going to take a bit of time to feel 100 per cent again and I know I have still got to work hard to feel as good as I did last year."
