EXPERIENCE has counted for talented North Wales tennis players.
The first year of the LTA national over-50s’ senior tennis league saw the North Wales ladies win all their matches to brilliantly claim the title.
Their rivals still have games left to play, but none of them will be able to overhaul North Wales.
The champion team consists of Karen Fisher, Nicki Harrison, Kat Oakley, Flo Malherbe, Eirian Lloyd Jones and captain Jo Macrae, who also play for local teams.
Home matches for North Wales were played at Wrexham Tennis Centre, against the likes of Leicestershire and Northumberland.
Meanwhile, the players have also been triumphant during their trips to Scotland and, closer to home, Shropshire.
The success comes after a succession of injuries over the course of the season, so the victories gained were even more precious for the North Wales team.
A team spokeswoman said: “Being their first year in the new age group having come from the over 40s was a difficult task, but one that didn’t cause too many worries as the team excelled and have gained promotion.
“The ladies will now train throughout the winter months at Wrexham until next season.”
