PHIL PARKINSON disagrees with EFL rules on squad size and admits it was tough leaving three senior players out of his plans until January.
Clubs in League Two are limited to a 22-man squad, although that number does not include goalkeepers or players who were under the age of 21 - such as centre-back Max Cleworth - at the start of the calendar year.
Wrexham last week submitted the list of outfield players aged over-21 and when experienced striker Steve Fletcher arrived at The STóK Cae Ras on a free transfer last Friday, the Scotland international was added as the 22nd and final player for the season.
There was no place for wing-backs Bryce Hosannah and Callum McFadzean, nor striker Billy Waters, who will only be able to feature in cup games until clubs are allowed to change their squad list when the January transfer window opens.
Parkinson is unhappy that there is a cap on the amount of players that have to be named in a squad.
"I disagree with the rule about the 22 players," said Parkinson.
"There is a financial fair play restriction on all clubs so that dictates your spending; if clubs want to spread that money thinner and bring more players in, I don't see why that should be stopped.
"There are players out of work looking for jobs and if you get injuries, you can't bring players in to replace those.
"I don't get that personally."
Parkinson explained why Hosannah, McFadzean and Waters missed out.
"We had to leave three great characters out of the squad," said Parkinson.
"Bryce has got a little niggle, tough on him, and Callum had a tough time last year, he has come back and with the players we have got in that position he was unlucky.
"Jake Bickerstaff has emerged as a player for us, got goals and looked sharp, and Billy has been unlucky because he has worked his socks off but unfortunately, those decisions have got to be made.
"I am happy with the squad, we have got cover."
