PHIL PARKINSON believes Steven Fletcher has already shown he will be an excellent addition to the Wrexham squad.

The Scotland international, who has scored 10 goals in 39 games for his national team, has joined the Reds on a free transfer until the end of the season.

After making his mark at Hibernian, Fletcher went on to spells with Burnley, Wolves. Sunderland, Marseille, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City before spending last season with Dundee United

Free agent Fletcher has arrived at The STóK Cae Ras as a replacement for Luke Armstrong whose deadline day move from Harrogate Town fell through after the EFL stated relevant documentation was not submitted on time.

Fletcher came on for his Wrexham debut eight minutes from time in Saturday's 2-1 home win against Doncaster Rovers and although the 36-year-old was only on the pitch a short amount of time, Reds' boss Parkinson was impressed with what he saw.

"I was contemplating whether to put him on the bench because he only trained Thursday, a bit of a session, and Friday," said Parkinson.

"I just said to him 'have you got 10-15 minutes in you, how do your legs feel after the last two days?' because we didn't want to get him injured.

"He said he felt he felt okay and he gave us a huge lift when he came on, he showed moments of quality.

"But equally, he showed some game management as well; he won a great header on the back stick from a set-play, and kept the ball in the corner towards the end.

"I am very pleased with the signing of Steven.

"Obviously we had a set-back on transfer deadline day but as I have said many times, if we get set-backs it is 'okay, how are we going to resolve that?', and I feel we have resolved it with a really good signing."

Parkinson is not short of attacking options with star striker Paul Mullin, who missed the start of the League Two campaign after suffering a punctured lung and four cracked ribs during the pre-season tour of America, making his comeback as a second half substitute against Doncaster.

When asked whether Fletcher will used to make an impact off the bench or start games, Parkinson commented: "Steven played a lot of games last year and was a shining light in a very difficult season for Dundee United so we will have to see, who knows.

"I felt we needed another striker of real quality in the building, you can never have enough strikers at your disposal, and Steven showed that he is going to make a big contribution."

Supporters were over the moon with Mullin's return but Elliot Lee was the match-winner against Doncaster.

Luke Young's first half goal was cancelled out but Lee cut inside from the left before seeing his low drive deflected into the net with just two minutes to go.

"Elliot is a little magician, he has got real magic in his boots," added Parkinson.

"You see that time and time again with him.

"He is a really class player, he has now got six goals and that is a fantastic return at this stage of the season.

"There won't be too many that have got as many goals as Elliot, especially from a deeper position which he plays for us.

"But you always feel that when he gets in and around the box, something is going to happen."
