WREXHAM came from 4-1 down to draw 5-5 with Swindon Town in a thrilling League Two clash at The ST óK Cae Rae.

Phil Parkinson's men paid the price for poor defending as Swindon led by three goals at the break.

Despite having a lot to do, the Reds mounted a second half comeback and got it back to 4-3 before the visitors got the next goal.

Wrexham, unbeaten at The STóK Cae Ras on the way to clinching the National League title last season, looked like losing for the second time in three home league games this season but two injury time goals secured a point which looked unlikeable at half-time.

Parkinson made two changes from the side that started the 4-1 midweek win against Walsall when Wrexham picked up a first league win of the campaign.

Ryan Barnett was preferred to Anthony Forde in the right wing-back role while Andy Cannon took over from Luke Young as the holding midfielder.

Wrexham saw a lot of the ball in the opening exchanges without creating anything until the ninth minute.

Ollie Palmer's flick landed into the path of Jake Bickerstaff who brought a brilliant save out of goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney.

However, Swindon took the lead on 17 minutes following poor defending by the Reds.

Remeao Hutton's cross to the back post was nodded back across goal by Charlie Austin and Jake Young headed home from close range.

Wrexham responded by winning a corner which was delivered by Elliot Lee and Palmer's header was tipped over the bar by Mahoney.

But Swindon made it 2-0 after 27 minutes.

Daniel Kemp delivered a cross into the area and although keeper Ben Foster came for it, Austin got in there first to heads into the back of the net.

Wrexham responded by pulling a goal back two minutes later.

Bickerstaff showed superb tenacity, riding two challenges wide on the left before advancing into the area and the striker fired past Mahoney

There was more agony for Wrexham as Swindon went 3-1 up on 31 minutes.

Wrexham lost the ball again and Kemp, given time and space, curled the ball beyond Foster from just outside the area.

Although Will Boyle headed narrowly wide from Ben Tozer's throw-in, there was more woe for Wrexham when Swindon made it 4-1 after 34 minutes.

Wrexham again gave the ball away and the ball ricocheted to Young who fired home.

Lee's low drive fell wide and Bickerstaff failed to hit the target before the whistle blew to bring the curtain down on a woeful first half performance.

There were a couple of chances for Wrexham early in the second half with Cannon bringing a save out of Mahoney who also gathered Boyle's header from Tozer's throw-in.

Palmer worked his way into the area and was also thwarted by Mahoney but Wrexham were awarded a penalty from the resulting corner after the striker was wrestled to the ground.

Lee stepped up and converted his spot-kick in the 51st minute to make it 4-2.

It got even better as Wrexham pulled another goal back four minutes later.

A lovely move finished with Lee squaring the ball to Jones who dinked the ball over the keeper into the net to put Wrexham back in the game.

Swindon almost scored after breaking clear and although Young beat Foster, his effort landed just wide of the post while Palmer should have equalised at the other end but he failed to hit the target from close range from Barnett's pass.

Wrexham were given a let-off when Tozer's back-pass wrong-footed Foster and the ball hit the outside of the post,

Jacob Mendy was denied by Mahoney for Wrexham while Swindon hit back with Kemp striking the underside of the bar following another counter-attack.

The next goal was vital and Swindon scored it after 71 minutes when Kemp fired past Foster to go 5-3 up, benefitting from more poor defending.

Wrexham gave themselves a chance of salvaging a point by making it 5-4 in the second minute of injury time when Mendy's shot was turned into the net by Jones with a defender unable to keep the ball out on the line.

And there was a last-gasp equaliser when Young's free-kick was parried and Lee converted the loose ball to secure a share of the spoils.
