THEY are off and running but Elliot Lee insists there is a lot more to come from Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson's men, promoted as National League champions last term, beat Walsall 4-2 at The STóK Cae Ras on Tuesday to register a first League Two win of the season.

Wrexham took one point from the opening two league games, with the 5-3 opening day defeat at home to MK Dons followed by last Saturday's 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon, but Lee was always confident that the Reds would soon get into their stride.

"We can't expect every game here to be like last season," said the playmaker.

"The Racecourse is a fortress for us and we were all unhappy with the MK Dons result and performance, we know it was nowhere near what we are like, and there were reasons for that but we are not making any excuses.

"We have reacted in the right way, it was a great performance in the cup against Wigan and we won on penalties.

"We should have won at Wimbledon but whenever you get an away point you take it and it was a great performance against Walsall so it is building blocks.

"We are steadily getting better, we are getting fitter, we are getting stronger and we are getting sharper, and we are going to keep building on that.

"Hopefully there are more performances likes against Walsall and even better moving forward.

"We are nowhere near at our ceiling, we are building as a team.

"That is a great foundation for us to keep improving game-by-game for a real successful season."

Wrexham are also at home on Saturday when Swindon Town are the visitors and Lee added: "Whenever you get an away point you want to back it up with a win and that's what we've done.

"Hopefully we can follow it up with another win on Saturday."

Lee, who bagged 15 goals in all competitions last season, has found the back of the net in the last two games.

"Obviously I want to contribute," he added.

"I try not to focus too much on goals and assists, I just want to play well and help the team and if the goals and assists come then great.

"Luckily they have come in the last two games so if I can keep putting performances in and we keep winning then I am doing my job."
