BEN FOSTER is not getting carried away with Wrexham’s title-favourites tag but the goalkeeper admits it would be wrong if the Reds weren’t targeting a second successive promotion.
Phil Parkinson’s men enjoyed a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign and were crowned National League champions, returning to the Football League following a 15-year absence.
Backed to continue climbing the divisions under Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have been installed by bookmakers at 10/3 to lift the League Two title.
Expectations are high once again ahead of Saturday’s big kick-off at home to MK Dons but Foster, who has signed a new one-year deal at The Racecourse, is keeping his feet on the ground and says the players know they must be up for the task.
“We will enjoy this season,” said the 40-year-old, who played the final eight games as Wrexham pipped Notts County to automatic promotion.
“Stuff about us being favourites, none of us pay attention to that.
“We know it is going to be tough, we know that if we are not on it we will get beat.
“You have go to go into every single game giving it everything you have got.”
Foster remains grounded but it doesn’t mean the former England international isn’t aiming for more success with Wrexham.
“If you go into a season not hoping for that or not thinking about that, you are probably doing something wrong,” he said.
“Ten other teams will be thinking ‘we can get promoted here’.
“That is our mindset going into this season and rightly so.”
