IT'S been a case of back to the future at Sychdyn Bowling Club!

The club is celebrating its centenary this year - and for the first time in more than three decades, Sychdyn staged a singles tournament.

A total of 32 players put on an excellent day of bowling with local bowlers and others from further afield taking part.

Talented 14-year-old competitor Jack Dougal was the tournament winner.

Jack, a Sychdyn regular in the Flintshire midweek and Chester leagues, defeated several strong players on his way to a great final with Mike Riley, a previous winner of both the Welsh and British individual championships.

The event was a great success and it is hoped the competition will become an annual feature on the bowling calendar.

Broughton A's meeting with Esclusham B next month looks like being a Flintshire Midweek League title decider.

Division One leaders Broughton (Nicola Boulton 21-6) recorded an 8-4 success versus third-placed Esclusham A and this was also the scoreline as Esclusham B (Owen Jackson 21-2) defeated Gresford Village (Paul Hallett 21-8).

Continuing the 8-4 theme, Coed Talon (John Langford 21-9) got the better of Mold Rec, while it was 9-3 in favour of Sychdyn A (John Roberts 21-9) and New Brighton A and Caerwys A edged out Oakenholt 6-5.

Cunliffe continue to rule the roost in Division Two on the back of an 11-1 outcome at Hawkesbury, while there were 8-4 triumphs for Llay B (Angela Howard 21-2) and Greenfield (Andrew Thomas 21-4), versus Aston A (Steve Cordall 21-1) and Northop Hall A (James Fitzpatrick 21-5) respectively.

It ended 9-3 in favour of Hoole Park (William Peter Johnson 21-6) against Treuddyn (Roger Jones 21-6), while Nercwys B (John Jones 21-7) and Mancot A (John Jones 21-9) played out a 6-6 stalemate.

It's still all to play for at the top of Division Three as the leading trio of Bradley Park, Penyffordd A and Fron Park all triumphed.

Ian Mitchell (21-4) was the leading light in Bradley Park's 11-1 success over Flint and Fron Park (Vic Alcock 21-2) went one better via a 12-0 whitewash versus Northop Hall B.

Penyffordd A (Steve Egerton 21-8) just got the better of Connah's Quay B (Declan Sullivan 21-7) 7-5 and Stuart Pryce (21-4) was on the money to help Argoed A to an 8-4 success at Gladstone A (Ray Dootson 21-7).

Steve Marks (21-2) was top block as Aston B beat Cilcain 11-1, while a second loss of the season was handed out to Division Four leaders Castell Alun, who lost out 9-3 at Leeswood (Glyn M Jones / Michael Jackson / Syd Drury 21-7).

Second-placed Halkyn just about prevailed 7-5 versus Caerwys B and this was also the result for Penyffordd B against Gladstone B (Trevor Evans 21-4).

Mancot B (Dave Whitton 21-8) saw off Nercwys A 8-4 and it ended up 9-3 to Oakenholt A (Neil Robdale 21-3) against Airbus.
