BEN FOSTER has urged his team-mates to embrace everything during the pre-season tour in America.

Wrexham have headed to the States where they will play four high-profile friendlies as part of their preparations for a first campaign in the Football League since 2008.

The club's popularity has soared in America since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse in February 2021, with the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary also earning the Reds a new legion of supporters.

That has been reflected in ticket sales with 50,000 people attending the opening friendly against Chelsea at The Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with the Premier League giants winning 5-0.

Former England international Foster, who has signed a new one-year deal at The Racecourse, is no stranger to overseas tours having played for the likes of Manchester United, West Brom and Watford during his career, and the 40-year-old told the rest of the players to enjoy the experience.

"People think you are going to America and how lovely it will be, but it is a lot of travelling," said the goalkeeper.

"But we will enjoy it, you have got to enjoy these sort of things.

"I have done it for 20 years so I know what it is all about.

"You are playing these teams in these lovely stadiums, you have got to take time to look around and just savour it and enjoy it.

"That is the message I will try and pass onto the lads."

Wrexham have been put on the footballing map since Reynolds and McElhenney became owners, and Foster says the Reds' players can expect to receive a lot of attention from the new American fanbase.

"You are going to get mobbed if you are Manchester United but nobody else gets that much fan-fare in America," said Foster.

"But some of the lads here are household names in America, they are proper famous.

"We know that when we go into these games, there are going to be fans cheering for us.

"I have played in America with Manchester United and West Brom, with West Brom we didn't get any fans.

"We might have taken 100 travelling fans but the rest are all just American fans.

"It will be interesting to see the support and it will be a nice experience for us."

Wrexham will also face Manchester United, Los Angeles Galaxy and Philadelphia Union as part of the fortnight long trip before the League Two season kicks-off with a home game against MK Dons on Saturday August 5.

Although he would like to register some wins in America, Foster knows it's not the be all and end all.

"I don't really read too much into pre-season friendlies," he added.

"I have had that many pre-seasons where the lads are so tired.

"You might have a game at night but you have already done a session in the morning.

"But that is what it is about, just getting the fitness back and being used to playing 90 minutes.

"It is great to win but it is all about fitness."
