WILL BOYLE has no issue dropping down two divisions but the defender doesn't plan to be playing in League Two for too long.

The 27-year-old has joined Wrexham from Huddersfield Town, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal to become Reds' boss Phil Parkinson's first new signing of the summer.

Left-sided centre-back Boyle made 18 appearances for the Terriers in the Championship last season in the Championship and previously spent five-and-a-half years with Cheltenham where, along with current Reds' club captain Ben Tozer, he helped the Robins clinch promotion from League Two in 2020-21.

Wrexham, crowned National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, are preparing for a first season in League Two since 2008 and Boyle hopes to be playing higher up the pyramid with his new club in the years to come.

"I came back in for pre-season at Huddersfield and it was made clear to me that I could look elsewhere," said Boyle.

"I had a few clubs interested and Wrexham were obviously one of them, and I decided that this is the right place for me to come and play my football.

"The ambitions of the club match my own.

"I want to be playing at a higher level than what I have come to play at and the club has got clear ambitions to be doing that.

"It was an exciting move with everything that comes with the club and the project which is a bit of a thrown about word but it does sum it up quite well.

"It is an exciting club to be a part of and I am delighted to join."

Although he is looking to play at a higher level, Boyle knows Wrexham will be made to work hard to success in League Two.

"I know for a fact it won't be easy," he said.

"League Two will be very competitive this season and the club knows that as well but we know what we want to do."

Boyle made the switch to north Wales in time for the club's historic pre-season tour in America.

Wrexham will play four games in the States as part of the build-up to the new League Two campaign, starting with tomorrow's clash against Premier League giants Chelsea in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

"It is perfect timing!" added Boyle.

"It is not something I have ever done - I have never been to America at all - so I am looking forward to it.

"It is going to be a massive experience and I am definitely going to enjoy it and take it all in but we are there to do a job.

"We are preparing for the season coming up and the games we are playing are there to do that.

"I am the only new addition so far and it is just carrying on working on what has been put in practice in training so far in the games, and make sure we are ready come the first game of the season."
