WREXHAM have headed off on a historic pre-season tour of America and Will Boyle joined the club just in time to make the flight.
The Reds have embarked on a first ever trip to the States where they will play four high profile friendlies as part of the preparations for a first season back in the Football League since 2008.
Part of the touring party who flew out from London yesterday is Boyle.
The centre-back became Phil Parkinson’s first new signing of the summer when he signed from Championship outfit Huddersfield Town on Thursday, with the 27-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.
Although he missed Saturday’s 4-2 win against Bala Town at Colliers Park, where Wrexham came from behind to clinch victory in the opening pre-season outing, Boyle will be involved in the America matches which start with Wednesday’s clash against Premier League giants Chelsea in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Boyle, who won automatic promotion from League Two with Cheltenham in 2020-21 alongside Wrexham club captain Ben Tozer, said: “It’s a perfect time for me to join, I feel, and a perfect opportunity for me.
“It’s exciting to be a part of. As soon as I knew there would be an opportunity to join, it excited me. It’s a club that is only going in one direction.”
Parkinson added: “Will is a strong addition to the squad; he’s had success in this division before and then played in League One and had a taste of the Championship last season too.
“I feel his character will fit in perfectly with the group, and it’s pleasing to get a signing through the door prior to departing for America.”
Wrexham captains Luke Young and Ben Tozer joined the plane’s captain in the cockpit before take off.
As well as Chelsea, the Reds will play Manchester United, LA Galaxy and Philadelphia on their two-week tour.
