LUKE YOUNG knows Wrexham - back in action tomorrow against Bala Town in their opening pre-season friendly - will have to work hard to achieve a second successive promotion but the Reds' captain says the players have had the taste of success and they want more.

Phil Parkinson's men enjoyed a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, clinching the National League title and return to the Football League following a 15-year absence.

Backed by bookmakers to continue climbing the divisions under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have been installed as favourites to finish champions of League Two next term.

Young, who will feature in the behind closed doors clash with Bala at Colliers Park along with all his team-mates before flying out to America for a four-game pre-season tour, insists no-one is getting carried away at The Racecourse and the midfielder acknowledged it will be tougher in 2023-24 playing at a higher level.

But the 30-year-old revelled in Wrexham's glory last term and says everyone is hungry to continue delivering success at The Racecourse.

"The heartache that everybody has been through in the last 15 years in non-league, to get out of it is a massive achievement," said Young, who joined Wrexham from Torquay United in the summer of 2018 and is the longest serving player in the squad along with goalkeeper Rob Lainton.

"Everyone is so happy and excited but there's also a bit of relief to finally get out of that league.

"You look at the teams that have got promoted in the last how many years, the momentum keeps you in there.

"You are on a good run and morale is high.

"We have got a good team spirit anyway and it is only going to get stronger.

"Everybody is hungry to be successful again, albeit in a higher division.

"We will be level headed, we know it is not going to be easy but we will give it everything we have got."
