WREXHAM boast an incredible home record under Phil Parkinson and he stressed the importance of making The Racecourse a fortress once again on the Reds’ return to The Football League.
Parkinson was appointed manager in July 2021 and only presided over two defeats in all competitions at the iconic north Wales stadium during his two seasons in the hotseat.
In his first campaign at the helm, Yeovil won 2-0 at The Racecourse in the National League on November 30, 2021, and Wrexham’s only other home loss in 2021-22 was the epic 5-4 play-off semi-final reverse against Grimsby Town.
That was a decent record but it was even better last term and laid the platform for Wrexham’s record-breaking season, culminating in automatic promotion back to the EFL following a 15-year absence.
Wrexham never lost on home territory, winning 22 of the 23 league games with the 2-2 draw against Woking on February 14 denying the Reds a perfect record, and Parkinson’s men were also unbeaten in cup games at The Racecourse.
The Reds’ boss is now planning for the new League Two campaign which kicks off with a home clash against MK Dons on Saturday August 5, and he wants to continue the brilliant form.
“The lads have really enjoyed playing at The Racecourse in my two years at the club,” said Parkinson.
“We have had so many thrills and spills at The Racecourse over the last couple of years and so many memorable games.
“The aim is to create some great memories again this year.
“We want teams to come to The Racecourse with a bit of fear.
“We certainly made it very difficult for the opposition team to take points away from us last year and the aim this season is to again embrace every challenge which comes our way throughout the season.
“We have gone up a level and the competition is going to be that bit tougher, we know that.
“But equally, we are going to work hard in pre-season to prepare the team to meet the challenges which lay ahead.”
Pre-season training is well underway and Parkinson is glad to be back.
“The pitch is looking great,” he said.
“We are excited about getting out in front of our supporters again but we have got a lot of work to do in pre-season before that happens.”
Being back in the EFL means Wrexham will renew acquaintances with old foes such as Crewe Alexandra, Newport and Tranmere, and Parkinson says fans will embrace a change of scenery after a decade-and-a-half in non-league.
“The great thing this year for our supporters is they have got lots of grounds to go to that they haven’t visited for a long time,” said Parkinson.
“That brings a nice freshness, not just for the players but more importantly the supporters, especially the ones who have followed the club throughout the years in the National League.
“It brings reality to the promotion when the fixture list comes out.
“There are some great fixtures to look forward to during the season.”
