PHIL PARKINSON admits there is an “element of truth” with some of the players he has been linked with over the summer but the Reds’ boss is adamant he will not complete new signings for the sake of it.

Wrexham were promoted as National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign and the Reds’ boss is planning for the club’s first season in the Football League following a 15-year absence.

With a strong squad already at his disposal, Parkinson is not looking to make too many additions and has put the emphasis on quality over quantity when it comes to recruitment.

No fresh faces have come through the door at The Racecourse this summer so far but there has been no shortage of players tipped as potential signings including Nick Powell, who had a spell at Manchester United after coming through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra, with the attacking midfielder a free-agent after being released by Championship side Stoke City.

Striker Curtis Main, who has spent the last two seasons at Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, is also rumoured to he interesting Wrexham.

Parkinson refused to comment on individuals but he admitted: “We get linked with a lot of players. Some have got an element of truth in, some haven’t got any at all.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to add quality and we are looking at several options but like I have stressed before, we won’t be making signings just for the sake of it, and just to say we have completed a signing.

“We don’t need to do that, and we are going into pre-season with a good squad already.”

Backed by bookmakers to continue climbing the divisions under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham are favourites for the League Two title.

Parkinson revealed some of his transfer targets are under contract at other clubs and with the League Two season kicking off on Saturday August 5, the Reds’ boss is happy to bide his time when it comes to completing new signings.

“A couple of players we want, we have spoken to the clubs where they are under contract,” added Parkinson, who will welcome his players back for pre-season training next week.

“Those deals are obviously not straightforward.

“But we are well prepared to wait for the players we feel can make a difference.

“If not, we are more than happy with the squad we have got.”
