PAUL MULLIN has enjoyed two promotions from League Two and the striker is looking to make it a hat-trick with Wrexham.
The 28-year-old scored 47 goals in all competitions as the Reds clinched the National League title and return to the Football League following a 15-year absence.
Wrexham are being tipped by bookmakers to continue rising through the divisions under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney next season and Mullin is aiming to go up to League One for a third time in his career.
Mullin helped Tranmere beat Newport County 1-0 in the 2019 League Two play-off final and the frontman scored for fun as Cambridge United finished runners-up to secure automatic promotion in the 2020-21 campaign.
When asked whether Wrexham can challenge for honours in the fourth tier, Mullin said: “Definitely.
“There’s no reason why we can’t go and compete at the very top in that league and try and get promoted again.
“I have faith in all the lads that we can go and do that, and hopefully this time next year we can be celebrating another promotion.
“I did it with Tranmere through the play-offs and Cambridge automatically, and there’s no reason why I can’t go and do it with Wrexham.”
Mullin scored 38 league goals as Wrexham won automatic promotion following a record-breaking season in the National League.
Phil Parkinson’s men were pushed all the way by title rivals Notts County in an incredible campaign which saw both teams pass the 100 points mark but the Reds beat Boreham Wood 3-1 at The Racecourse to guarantee top spot with one game to go.
Mullin, who has bagged 79 goals in all competitions during his two seasons at Wrexham, was delighted to take the Reds back into the league for the first time since 2008.
“It means everything to me,” said Mullin.
“I have put so much pressure on myself for the last two years to deliver that moment and to finally do it was like a big relief and weight off the shoulders.”
Supporters invaded the pitch following the final whistle as Wrexham came from behind to beat The Wood.
Mullin, who scored a brilliant second-half brace after Elliot Lee quickly cancelled out an early goal, relished the scenes:
“It was incredible,” he said.
“To see what it meant to everyone over the last two years, to finally do it was unbelievable.
“It was very emotional seeing everyone’s happy faces on the pitch and to know that you gave them that moment was special.”
A picture of Mullin celebrating in front of thousands of fans has gone viral and he added: “It’s an iconic photo and one that will probably go up on many walls around Wrexham and around the world over the next few years.
“It was a phenomenal moment for me and something I will look back on with many happy memories when I am old and grey.”
