THE Chief Executive of the EFL has discussed the possibility of promoting three sides from the National League.

There have been calls for years to implement the three up, three down status with League Two and the National League, but to no avail.

Now, Rick Parry, the Chief Executive of the EFL has said that it could happen.

Parry told the BBC: "We are having a lot of discussion about three up, three down.

"We absolutely recognise the need to look downwards as well as up. We have to be consistent in our approach.

"We haven't put proposals to our clubs yet, but do we envisage that being part of the package we put forward? Yes, 100%."

The change would mean that two National League sides would go up automatically, along with one through the playoffs.

Three League Two sides would be relegated down to the fifth tier as a result.

Wrexham have fallen foul of the two up, and two down on a couple of occasions. In the 2011/12 season, the Reds finished second with 98 points, a tally that would have seen them win the league five times in the past 10 years.

They missed out again last year to Stockport, finishing six points behind the eventual winners.

There will be hopes among fans that Wrexham will come out on top in the battle for the title with Notts County this season and end their 15-year stay in the fifth tier.
