PHIL PARKINSON admits everyone in the Wrexham ranks has been “blown away” by the number of supporters who will head to Yorkshire tonight hoping to see the Reds pull off another FA Cup shock.
Wrexham face Championship high-fliers Sheffield United in a fourth round replay at Bramall Lane with nearly 4,800 fans snapping up tickets for the midweek clash.
That ‘incredible’ away following is not lost on Parkinson.
“It is going to be another great occasion for the football club,” said Parkinson. “Bramall Lane is an amazing stadium to play at and we are taking an incredible amount of fans.
“I think that has blown everybody in the club away that we have sold out of tickets.
“It is incredible on a Tuesday night to be going over to Sheffield with that many supporters.
“The lads couldn’t believe it; people were queuing up in front of the ground all week buying their tickets and to sell that many....I’m telling you now, there’s not many clubs in the country who can do that.”
Wrexham, who won 4-3 at Coventry City - another Championship side - in the third round, are underdogs against the Blades but Parkinson is buoyed by his side’s performance in the first game.
United took a second minute lead but Wrexham led 2-1 in the second half and although Paul Heckingbottom’s men equalised, Paul Mullin put the Reds back in front four minutes from time. The Blades scored an injury time leveller but Parkinson is looking for a similar display from his players.
“I just want all the supporters to go across and, like us, really the enjoy the night and enjoy watching your team on that Championship stage,” added the Reds’ boss.
“The team will put in a really good performance and we will give everything as we always do.
“If we play half as well as we did in the first game, we will have half a chance.
“We would love to have got through at the first time of asking but there is another chance for us.
“We went to Coventry and played really well on the day.
“We will be going to Sheffield to make it a cup tie and give it everything we have got to try and get through.”
