WREXHAM came agonisingly close to pulling off another FA Cup upset but co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds applauded the players for their efforts against Championship high-fliers Sheffield United.

Phil Parkinson's side fell behind with just over 60 seconds gone at The Racecourse and then lost centre-backs Jordan Tunnicliffe and Aaron Hayden to injury inside the opening 10 minutes of the fourth round tie but the Reds turned things around to lead 2-1 with second half goals from James Jones and Tom O'Connor.

The Blades levelled and although leading scorer Paul Mullin put Wrexham ahead with four minutes remaining, the visitors grabbed a stoppage time equaliser to force a replay at Bramall Lane next week, with the winners playing host to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth round.

Reynolds was in attendance for the cup tie and Parkinson revealed the Hollywood star spoke to all the players in the changing room following the final whistle.

"Ryan came in the dressing room afterwards," said Parkinson.

"I finished my bit and he said some great words to the lads which they will remember for a long time.

"It meant a lot to the team because the lads gave everything."

Tunnicliffe suffered ankle ligament damage while Hayden picked up a calf injury and is also set for a spell on the sidelines.

"We are obviously disappointed with the two lads coming off injured," added Parkinson.

"Both have had scans and we are still waiting on the specialist to review them."
