OLLIE PALMER was pleased with how he adjusted to life at a new club last season but the Wrexham striker feels his all-round game is even better this term.

The 30-year-old joined the Reds from AFC Wimbledon for a club record transfer fee in January and scored 16 goals, helping Phil Parkinson's side finish runners-up to Stockport County.

The goals have continued to flow in 2022-23, with Palmer finding the back of the net seven times but also impressing with his link-up play which has caused opposition defences all sorts of problems.

Palmer feels having a pre-season with his team-mates has brought the best out in him.

"I was really happy with how I did last season," said Palmer.

"I came into a new team at the end of the transfer window in January and scored 16 goals so I was happy with that.

"I jumped into a moving car if you like and everything was going at 100mph when I joined.

"There was just one goal of getting promoted and there wasn't really any time to settle in so it was just bang, bang, bang.

"But this season I had a pre-season with the lads and got to know players, people get to know your strengths and weaknesses, and that allows me to play how I was playing before at Wimbledon; linking up play and mixing my game up a little bit more.

"Lads get to know how you like to play and it has been an enjoyable start to the season, but that is all it is right now."

Wrexham go into tomorrow's clash against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park unbeaten in seven matches and sitting second in the National League.

The Reds are the leading scorers in the division with 29 goals in 10 games, and they also boast an impressive defensive record.

It's been an excellent start to the season at The Racecourse but Palmer isn't getting carried away.

"Since I have come here I feel like I have been involved in a winning team, a winning mentality football club," said Palmer.

"The lads here expect to be winning every week so it is nothing new this season.

"I can only speak from when I was here but we scored a lot of goals last season and we are doing the same this season, and we have also kept a lot of clean sheets this season already.

"It is pleasing for everyone to be chipping in, it is a tight-knit squad here and everyone is playing their part but there is a long time left from now until April."

Six different players found the back of the net in Saturday's 6-0 win against lowly Torquay, including Paul Mullin who has scored one more goal than Palmer.

Wrexham boast a 100 per cent home record and Palmer now wants an away win at Oldham.

"It's been a good start, things to build on and I think we have given the fans a lot to sing about," added Palmer.

"We want to keep this place as a fortress and keep scoring goals; me and Mulls but also the rest of the team.

"Six goalscorers on Saturday was brilliant.

"Now we have got to go to Oldham, show them respect but go there to try and take all three points."
