WREXHAM get their first taste of playing on a 4G pitch this season but manager Phil Parkinson wants to pass the test and extend the winning run to four games.

Tuesday’s 3-1 success over Gateshead made it a hat-trick of victories and took the Reds up to second place in the National League, one point behind leaders Chesterfield.

Dorking, promoted to the fifth tier for the first time in their history in 2021-22, have an artificial playing surface at Meadowbank but Parkinson is not fazed as his side go in search of a fifth win in seven outings this term.

“I said to the lads before the game that we have got to get on that coach to Dorking second in the table,” said Parkinson.

“We knew we couldn’t get first because of the points but we need to win, get second in the table and go on the coach in good spirits, and go and build on this three-game winning run that we are on at the moment.

“Dorking are an interesting team.

“I have obviously watched them a few times already, they look to play and they have got a 4G pitch as everybody knows, but it is a good one.

“The ball seems to move quickly and they like to play football as well.

“It will be a cracking atmosphere I’m sure.

“They have done great to get into the National League but we have got to go down there with a real determination to keep this run going.”

Ben Tozer and Ollie Palmer, with his second goal in as many outings, put Wrexham 2-0 up after just nine minutes but Gateshead reduced the deficit before being reduced to 10-men.

Paul Mullin's late goal secured three points and Parkinson hailed his five goal top scorer.

"Paul, when he is clean through like that you are always confident the net will be bulging and it gave us a nice bit of breathing space," he added.
