PHIL PARKINSON described the early uptake of tickets by supporters for Wrexham’s appearance at Wembley as “outstanding” but the Reds boss is looking forward to bumper Racecourse crowds when the promotion challenge resumes this weekend.
Tickets for the FA Trophy final against Bromley at the London stadium on Sunday May 22 went on sale to season ticket holders on Monday and more than 10,000 were snapped up by fans on the first day alone.
Promotion is the priority and there are eight National League games before the showpiece but Parkinson was understandably impressed by the amount of tickets already sold for the Wembley showpiece.
“That is an outstanding response,” said Parkinson.
“Like I said at the time, Wembley is a bonus game for everyone connected with the club to enjoy a day at Wembley and that is what we will do.
“There is a lot of organising around that with tickets and everything, and me, Shaun Harvey and Fleur Robinson are right on top of that getting things organised early so it doesn’t detract us from what we need to do on a game-to-game basis in the league.”
Wrexham, second in the table and eight points behind leaders Stockport County with eight games to go, continue the title challenge with an Easter double header.
Both games are at The Racecourse with the Reds, currently unbeaten in 13 matches, playing host to promotion rivals Solihull Moors this Friday before welcoming Altrincham on Monday.
The clash with Solihull is being screened live by BT Sport and Parkinson would love a repeat of last month’s 3-1 win against title contenders Halifax Town which was also on television.
“We knew we had an imbalance of home and away games, and that has been readdressed in this recent run,” said Parkinson, who sees a run of seven successive home games come to an end after the Bank Holiday double-header.
“We now finish off this sequence with a Friday-Monday, and what a great weekend to be part of.
“Two bank holiday fixtures which everybody is looking forward to.
“A full-house on Friday and television cameras here; last time (on TV) we played one of the top of teams in the league - Halifax - and I thought it was a great advert for the division.
“I am sure this game will be no different.”
