THERE’S work to be done on both fronts but Ollie Palmer is setting his sights high and targetting a league and cup double.
Promotion is the priority and second placed Wrexham are 11 points behind National League leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.
Phil Parkinson’s side have 10 matches remaining in a bid to end the Football League exile but tomorrow the focus switches to the FA Trophy and a semi-final showdown against the Hatters at The Racecourse.
The winners will book their place in May’s showpiece at Wembley against Bromley or York, and Palmer is hungry for success whatever the competition.
“It is a massive game,” said Palmer.
“I don’t know the last team was that won the double in this league, if and when that last happened, and we have got a huge opportunity to do that.
“The best teams in the world, your Manchester City’s and Liverpool’s, they don’t snub the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup - the smaller cups to them.
“They want to go and win everything and we have got to go and make sure we do the same.
“As a squad, as a football club, fans, everyone together, we want to go out and win as much as we can and that includes this competition.
“Obviously we have got a main goal but why not try and win the double.”
Wrexham go into the cup clash on the back of an epic 6-5 victory against relegated Dover Athletic which extended the unbeaten run to 10 games.
The Reds had to do it the hard way as after taking a two-nil lead, they trailed 5-2 in the 63rd minute.
Palmer began the comeback with a brace and Jordan Davies equalised at the start of injury time before grabbing a last-gasp winner.
Even when Wrexham trailed by three goals, Palmer still thought they could win the game.
“I’ve been in some good comebacks but not of that magnitude,” said Palmer.
“Four goals in half an hour is a pretty good comeback!
“When they went 5-2 up I remember shouting at Mulls and Jordan, saying: ‘We are going to win this game’.
“I don’t know what came over me but they both looked at me and said: ‘Yeah, we are’. They just believed it.
“It was a brilliant atmosphere, I was the one who got the first two goals but we managed to pull it off as a collective.”
Palmer has scored nine goals in 13 league and cup matches since Wrexham broke their transfer record to sign the frontman from League One side AFC Wimbledon in January.
“I am really happy with that,” added Palmer.
“Obviously I am lucky to come into a good squad with great players that help create them opportunities, and a manager that believes in me.
“It is being a part of the puzzle; if I look at myself as a jigsaw piece, I feel like I have slotted in a little gap quite nicely.”
