‘NEVER devalue a trip to Wembley’.
That is Phil Parkinson’s attitude as he attempts to lead Wrexham to a place in the FA Trophy final at the stadium by beating National League title rivals Stockport County in tomorrow’s last four clash at The Racecourse.
Promotion might be the priority but the Reds’ boss, who has named a strong side in the previous four rounds, still wants to be participating in the showpiece against either Bromley or York City on May 22.
“We have made a few changes here and there along the way, kept the momentum going and we find ourselves one game away from Wembley,” said Parkinson.
“Never devalue a trip to Wembley.
“It is an iconic stadium and the aim is to make sure we are there come Saturday afternoon.”
Wrexham are second in the National League, 11 points behind Stockport with a game in hand.
When asked whether beating the Hatters would strike a pshycholigal blow ahead of a potentially crucial match between the sides in May, Parkinson added: “I think so,
“But we cross that bridge when we come to it.
“This is a game in its own entity. Both teams are one game away from Wembley and the aim is to be be driving up Wembley Way come May 22.”
The cup has proved to be a welcome distraction as far as Parkinson is concerned.
"The FA Trophy is a competition that has gathered momentum," added Parkinson.
"We have worked very hard to get to this stage and had some good victories; the Boreham Wood one and Notts County in particular after coming through two tricky early ties.
"It is a nice break from the league, cup football has always got a different feel to it and what a draw.
"Home to Stockport, you can't ask any more than that. We will get the preparation right and get ready for what will be another terrific game."
