CAMERON GREEN has to pinch himself that he could be helping Wrexham clinch a play-off spot but the defender believes he deserves it for refusing to throw in the towel.

The 22-year-old left back was in the football wilderness after leaving Watford in the summer of 2020 and hadn't played this season before the 22-year-old was recommended to Wrexham boss Dean Keates.

Following a successful trial, Green joined the Reds on non-contract terms last month and he has impressed in five starts since replacing the injured Jamie Reckord.

Green has played his part in the play-off push and Wrexham will be guaranteed a top-seven finish if they win at Dagenham this Saturday on the final day of the regular season.

It has been a difficult year for Green but the hard work is paying off.

"It has been a really tough year for me without football," said Green. "My last game was March 12 last year for Watford under 23s

"I give credit to myself, I am quite professional and I have been very disciplined every day.

"I have done my road runs, I eat well and it is like I am now reaping the rewards with the sacrifices I have made.

"Sometimes you think 'when is my break going to come' and I have always been told your break will come when you least expect it, and it has come at the end of the season which I never thought was going to happen.

"I have worked hard but now I have just got to take my chance."

Green hopes to keep his place in the side for the crucial showdown at Dagenham.

"Everybody wants to play in the big games and it is giving me goosebumps because I have worked so hard my whole career, let alone this year, and I just want to play on Saturday and influence the team," said Green.

"I can't wait and it would be great to play. It will be good to play in front of fans again and we have got to get three points.
