ANDY MORRISON felt his side were relentless in their 2-0 win over Haverfordwest County as they moved six points clear at the top.
The Nomads came into the game off the back of an impressive 3-1 victory at Bala in midweek and they recorded another comfortable win at the Deeside Stadium where Michael Wilde netted his 200th Welsh Premier League goal.
It was another confident display by the league leaders, who broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time as captain George Horan settled the nerves.
Morrison was pleased with his side’s display, but admitted they are still lacking quality in front of goal.
“The game plan showed a hell of a lot of respect to them. We know they play a bit deeper,” said the Nomads boss.
“Once they get the first two or three passes right, then they’re playing their strikers down the side. Fawcett and Williams are intelligent footballers, who pick up good positions and everything else comes from that.
“We got the press really right and I’m really pleased with that. It’s easy for opposing managers to say, ‘we didn’t get our passing game going’, sometimes it’s a lot to do with the other team showing respect and making sure they box you off, and we did that.
“The first half, the stats will be the biggest during my time at the club, the entries into the box, double figures on corners, throw-ins, we pinned them in, they couldn’t get out, the second balls,. We were just relentless.
“We got a goal at the right time but again, a little bit more quality in and around the final third, it might’ve been an easier afternoon. Once we got the second goal it’s making sure we keep a clean sheet and making sure the three points are cemented.”
The Nomads have been in fine form since the resumption of the league, taking 13 points from a possible 15. They now have a week off before they visit Newtown in the final first phase game of 2021.
Morrison hailed the “great run of games” before turning his attention to what the next couple of weeks has in store for the champions.
“It’s a great run of games we’ve had, going Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday Tuesday, Saturday, which is not normal for us but what we’ve got now is a chance to rest up,” he added.
“Rest up the bodies, not the minds. I want to keep the intensity in the head, but rest the bodies up over the next five, six days and then start building into the Newtown game.
“Absolutely delighted but now we need to rest up for a few days, come back in Thursday and build into Newtown, which is going to be a really tough game.”
Bala Town’s title hopes are all but over after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Huw Griffiths’ Caernarfon Town.
Colin Caton’s side did take the lead on 16 minutes as Will Evans’ header from a corner deflected off Gareth Edwards into the net.
The Cofis were back level just a minute after the break as former Bala striker Hayes curled in a cracker after good work by on-loan Wrexham youngster Max Cleworth and Paulo Mendes.
And it was Mendes who secured the points and a place in the top six with the 69th minute winner.
The wife of former Wales manager Chris Coleman has quashed rumours of him becoming the next manager of The New Saints.
Reports linked Coleman, who also managed Sunderland and Fulham, with the vacant managerial position at Park Hall and the task of reclaiming the Cymru Premier League title from Connah’s Quay Nomads.
But Coleman’s wife Charlotte took to social media to deny the claims, tweeting: “You may want to fact check your story. No truth what so ever!”
