NEIL GIBSON has admitted to not liking the January transfer window claiming he normally gets his business done and dusted before the start of the season.
But the 2020/2021 coronavirus-hit season has changed so many things for people, not just what Cymru Premier League managers took for granted and that’s why the new Flint Town United boss has brought in 13 new players ahead of The Silkmen’s restart at home to Penybont tomorrow.
“I’m used to putting my team in place before the start of the season but things have changed,” said the former Prestatyn Town boss, who replaced Niall McGuinness as Flint manager last year.
“I’ve brought in a few players who used to be with me at Prestatyn and others who I think can push for a first team place but also be very important in the future for the club.”
Former Prestatyn midfielder Ross Weaver arrived at The Essity Stadium from neighbours Holywell Town, whose Cymru North campaign has yet to start.
“Ross Weaver is a player I know extremely well,” added Gibson.
“He is an infectious character who has real desire. He was with me at Prestatyn for five seasons so it’s fair to say I know his strengths.
“He has experience of playing in this league and I’m sure he will be an asset to the club for many years.”
With John Danby retiring, Gibson has three goalkeepers - Jon Rushton, Ryan Woods and Elijah Beattie - vying for the number one spot.
“I know Jon well,” added Gibson, who will have former Wrexham striker Lee Jones alongside him in the dug-out together with Aden Shannon and Johnny Hill, who have remained at the club.
“Jon is experienced in Welsh Premier league circles, and he’s played in Europe.”
Among the other new recruits are five players from Warrington Town, whose season was curtailed due to the Covid pandemic.
And Gibson was quick to praise Town manager and former Chester City captain Paul Carden.
Evan Gumbs, Eddie Clarke, Mitch Duggan, Jordan Buckley and Josh Amis have all arrived from Cantilever Park and Gibson hopes they can make a real impact in their new surroundings.
“I would like to thank Paul Carden and everyone at Warrington FC, for their help and cooperation in enabling the lads to join us at Flint in such a quick and professional manner.
I believe we have signed five very exciting young players who are hungry to play football and help us at Flint Town achieve our goals between now and the end of the season.”
