JAYSON STARKEY is calling for Cefn Druids to ‘change the record’ with a ruthless performance in-front of goal.
The Ancients have managed just 10 goals - the lowest total in the top-flight - in 13 outings, that failure to put the ball in the back of the net a major factor in their position at the foot of the division.
Chairman Des Williams released a statement on Wednesday that said: “Playing entertaining football is great and we’ve created 104 goal scoring opportunities and only scored 10 goals so far this season and that’s totally unacceptable.”
And Starkey knows Druids need to find the net on a more frequent basis if they are to pick up points against visiting Haverfordwest on Saturday.
“It’s been the same story for a few weeks,” conceded assistant head coach Starkey. “But it’s not just the strikers that are needed to score. At level of football putting the ball in the back of the net is the most important thing and we need to find a way of doing that.”
Druids chances of clinching victory have been dealt a blow by an injury to Joe Faux, who limped out of Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Caernarfon Town. Sam Phillips, Jacob Wise and Steff Edwards are also rated doubtful for Druids, who saw Aaron Simpson score their goal in midweek.
Striker Jamie Reed, meanwhile, has left The Rock for personal reasons.
The experienced striker, signed last January, wrote: “Decided to step away from @CefnDruids first team, these great lads train very hard 3 times a week, so that plus coaching has started to impact my personal life.”
