DES WILLIAMS insists he is ready to act in order to keep Cefn Druids in the Cymru Premier.
The Ancients slipped to their ninth defeat in 13 outings on Tuesday as Huw Griffiths’ Caernarfon came away from The Rock with a 2-1 win. And chairman Williams released a statement giving his thoughts on the season to date and his plans to drag Druids out of the relegation zone.
It read: “It’s the morning after the night before and the Druids remain at the foot of the league table and this morning things have started to change. When I was putting forward the case for teams to have spectators and bemoaning the loss of income, I was told during a chairman’s meeting ‘You’re with the big boys now so pull up your pants and get on with it’ and that chairman was right.
Excuses are just elaborate lies and I’m sick of hearing the excuses.
“Playing entertaining football is great and we’ve created 104 goal scoring opportunities and only scored 10 goals so far this season and that’s totally unacceptable. If playing pretty football won you points, we’d be near the top of the league but alas it doesn’t and, although head coach Bruno Lopes has introduced a new playing philosophy that’s won plaudits from the footballing purists, the players have failed to deliver the goals that count and the game is results based.
“I’m extremely disappointed in the way we played last night. I was ashamed to be the chairman of this wonderful club and I hid in my office for the second half.
“We have a core number of players that give heart and soul for the club, they love playing our new style and have embraced it. They are being let down by the players whose ego exceeds their talent and are happy picking up their wages and going through the motions.
“I personally expect more from the players and I’m disappointed in a few of them that have brought their name but forgot how to play the game. These few need to look in the mirror and ask themselves a simple question. How is it that they train three times a week and yet are losing to teams that get together once a week? Taking my enthusiasm for the club as a sign of weakness is a sign of stupidity. My smiles and seeming willingness to do all I can to make players happy masks my sheer competitive drive and win at all cost mentality.
“Over the past few weeks, all I’ve heard are excuses for missing training sessions and tales of injury woe. Any player that thinks I’m dumb enough to fall for that and smile as they pick up their wages will suddenly find themselves playing on a park pitch in the middle of winter for the U23’s or worse still at home reading the results on Twitter.
“Today, I started the recruitment drive to keep the club in the Cymru Premier. I’m looking for players that have the desire, drive and commitment to play good football and happen to know where the goal is and help team-mates find it.”
