NIALL MCGUINNESS insists Flint Town United are focused on the future after consigning the thumping by The New Saints to the history books.
Saints ran riot at Park Hall last weekend as they claimed a 10-0 home victory, striker Greg Draper a particular thorn in Flint’s side courtesy of five goals.
Flint’s midweek home game against Bala Town fell foul to the wet weather, so tomorrow’s (Saturday) visit of Haverfordwest County represents the chance to right the wrongs of the loss to Saints.
“We’ve trained and we will be right and ready to go,” said boss McGuinness. “I said to the lads that I hoped they’d watched the game back and they were embarrassed by what they saw.
“But that was the last we will talk about it and we start afresh now.”
A home game against fellow top-flight newcomers Haverfordwest, comfortably beaten 4-0 at by Penybont in midweek, would surely be one Flint earmarked as a fixture they wanted - even needed - to get a positive result from.
“It’s a big game,” said McGuinness. “We 100 per cent want to get something from the game, but they will be thinking the same with us both being new to the league.”
Joe Palmer has returned to Flint on-loan from Airbus, with fellow midfielder Alex Jones also arriving from Prestatyn.
“They are great additions,” said McGuinness. “They are great characters and real winners, who will add a lot to the team and club.
McGuinness, who is still actively looking to strengthen his playing options ahead of next week’s deadline, has seen Brandon Burrows and Kyle Smyth depart the Essity Stadium.
Midfielder Burrows tweeted: “Would like to say thank you to @FlintTownFC for the past 2 seasons, I’ve met some great lads over the past 2 years.
“I’ve decided to leave the club to start enjoying my football again...nothing is concrete yet moving forward for me but all the best for the future.”
McGuinness added: “They’ve both been great servants for the club and we wish them well for whatever the future holds.”
Goalkeeper John Danby (groin) is rated doubtful for tomorrow’s encounter, while attacker Alex Titchiner is sidelined with a knee injury.
Elsewhere this weekend, Newtown entertain in-form Barry Town United and Colin Caton’s Bala Town play host to Aberystwyth Town.
