BRUNO LOPES has been confirmed as Cefn Druids new head coach on a two-year deal.
The 36-year-old arrives at The Rock after a spell in caretaker charge of Portuguese Primeira Liga side Portimonense, where he was promoted from his role as head coach of the Under-23s.
Lopes will take charge of Druids against Wrexham tomorrow night before the start of the Cymru Premier campaign on Saturday, the Ancients heading to newly promoted Haverfordwest County.
Chairman Des Williams was delighted to have snapped up Lopes, saying: “We have known about Bruno for some time but he was unavailable and when we found out that he was suddenly available, we immediately took the opportunity to make contact and I’m pleased to have him onboard.”
According to the statement from Druids, Lopes has a desire to bring in young and hungry players to the club with an eye on securing a top-six spot and European football.
Williams also thanked the club's supporters for their patience regarding finding a permanent successor to Stuart Gelling, now working with the Chinese FA.
“We would like to thank all of our supporters for their patience and for the support they have given to Stuart Gelling, Jayson Starkey and the backroom staff during this difficult transition period and we are confident that Bruno and the new backroom team will bring us the success the club so richly deserves,” added Williams.
