WREXHAM may well have missed out on a cash windfall after Jordan Davies was released by Brighton.
Davies, 21, pictured below, was snapped up by the now Premier League outfit in January 2017 before the youngster had made his Wrexham debut.
The Coedpoeth-raised full-back had caught the eye of potential suitors while out on-loan at Bangor City, Andy Legg comparing Davies to Gareth Bale during his time at Nantporth.
“He has got everything about him, dare I say it, he reminds me of a young Gareth Bale, the way he glides past people, goes past them with ease, he has got a terrific left foot, a great temperament and I can’t say anything bad against the lad,” said Legg when asked his assessment of Davies.
But Davies, who has made half-a-dozen Football League Trophy appearances for the Seagulls, will have to make his mark on the professional game away from the Amex Stadium after Brighton confirmed that he was one of six players that won’t be offered terms for next season.
And that could be bad news for the Reds after they sold Davies for the “best possible deal” - which may well have included a sell-on clause and a number of additional appearance-based incentives - over three years ago.
Wrexham boss Dean Keates was pleased with the deal the Reds got for Davies, who was yet to sign a new contract at The Racecourse.
“It has been an ongoing thing with Jordan,” said Keates when Davies was signed by Brighton.
“We made him a contract offer six or seven weeks ago, but we were told by Jordan’s agent that he wouldn’t be signing it and that he would be waiting until January.
“We accepted a bid, which was the right offer for the football club. When I found out there was interest I wanted to get the best possible deal for the football club, and we’ve done that.”
St Mirren midfielder Ryan Flynn can see some light at the end of the tunnel in his route back from injury, further boosted by signing a new deal.
The 31-year-old former Wrexham man suffered cruciate ligament damage in February but was offered a new contract.
Flynn told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to get the deal sorted. It’s one that’s never been in doubt, it’s just been a case of circumstances with everything going on but I’m glad it’s sorted and I can just get on with rehab now.”
