WEST HAM v MANCHESTER CITY

NICK HARRISON: City like their trips to London and with De Bruyne looking back to his best and Aguero rested, you can’t see the champions not winning in the capital. Sterling to score in easy win. 1-3

TOM NORRIS: Pep’s has only made minor tweaks to his City squad and there was little reason to do much else. The Hammers might be caught cold by City’s Community Shield exploits. 0-2

DAN HEALD: City seem to have made the transition from pre-season to competitive action quickly. They may not hit top gear for a few weeks yet, but they’ll have enough to see off the Hammers. 0-2

BOURNEMOUTH v SHEFFIELD UNITED

NH: It’s a good opener for both sides. Bournemouth need to push on and find more consistency this season while The Blades have nothing to lose against a Cherries side, who blow hot and cold. 3-1

TN: Sheffield United’s formation will allow them to be competitive, certainly early on, and against the likes of Bournemouth, who are struggling with a few injuries. 1-2

DH: A good early fixture for the newly-promoted Blades who will face a Bournemouth side with plenty of defensive vulnerabilities. 2-2

BURNLEY v SOUTHAMPTON

NH: Burnley came good in the end last season while The Saints also recovered under Hasenhüttl. Redmond could be the difference between the two sides in what will be a cagey affair. 1-1

TN: It will be fascinating to see how Southampton fare after a full pre-season under Hasenhuttl, who has boosted his attacking options, but not the Saints backline. Burnley will be better for no European campaign. 1-2

DH: Burnley will be stronger for having no Europa League obligations this season. Will be interesting to see how new Saints forward Che Adams fares against a physical and miserly Clarets defence. 1-1

CRYSTAL PALACE v EVERTON

NH: Everton have left it a bit late with their transfer business so it’s unlikely all their new arrivals will play or gel quickly enough. Richarlison always starts well but games against Palace do have a habit of ending in draws. 2-2

TN: Everton have gone about their business impressively in the summer with Kean a very fine signing. Palace haven’t done too much in contrast and there are concerns about their firepower - or lack of it. 0-1

DH: Everton have impressed me with the pre-season business they’ve conducted. Delph and Kean are two shrewd additions and can help the Toffees break the stranglehold on the top six. 1-2

WATFORD v BRIGHTON

NH: The Seagulls could be heading back down to the Championship this season and if Deulofeu can get off to a flier then Watford will win easily. 3-1

TN: If Potter’s appointment means Brighton will be playing an expansive game then they could be heading down. Watford are a funny old side - something Gracia will look to change - but this one gives them the ideal starter. 2-0

DH: Graham Potter will be burdened by expectation from the outset after succeeding the poorly-treated Chris Hughton. Watford look more like a side that belong in the top flight under Javi Gracia and can start with a win here. 2-0

TOTTENHAM v ASTON VILLA

NH: Kane is back to full fitness and Villa better watch out. Villains’ boss Smith has been more than active in the transfer market and his latest signing, Heaton, will be the busiest man on the pitch. 4-1

TN: A summer of rest for Kane spells trouble for the Villa defence, but Dean Smith’s men will be no pushovers, certainly with the hosts missing Son and Alli. 1-0

DH: Big-spending Villa have made wholesale changes to their Championship squad and, despite a strong pre-season, it could take time for Smith’s men to gel. Kane to score for Spurs. 1-1

LEICESTER CITY v WOLVES

NH: Might be one of the best games of the weekend. The Foxes will be eyeing up a top five finish but have to stop relying on Vardy all the time while Wolves are capable of beating any team, especially with Moutinho pulling the strings. 2-2

TN: The start of what looks an entertaining Sunday. Wolves won’t fancy chasing Leicester around the King Power after Europa League duty, and that could work in the Foxes favour. 2-1

DH: Two sides touted as top-six contenders and who have quality managers at the helm - both of whom favour swift attacking football. There could be goals here. 2-1

NEWCASTLE UNITED v ARSENAL

NH: The tension seems to have settled down a bit on Tyneside. Bruce will be desperate for a winning start while Emery needs to play Lacazette and Aubameyang as a front two. If he does, The Gunners will have a good season. 1-2

TN: Despite the unrest at Newcastle, Mike Ashley has actually spent some money - whether that’s been done wisely remains to be seen. Arsenal have added a couple of interesting players in Ceballos and Pepe and they will have too much for their hosts. 2-4

DH: This has to be Steve Bruce’s final crack at top-level management. He’ll have the Mike Ashley circus to contend with though and I can’t see his reign lasting long. Aubameyang to fire the Gunners to victory. 1-3

MANCHESTER UNITED v CHELSEA

NH: Great game to finish off the opening weekend with both managers heading into a season with so much to prove. Rashford will be key to United’s campaign and he could be the match-winner. 2-1

TN: There are a lot of questions to be asked about both sides. Maguire and Wan-Bissaka have strengthened United’s defence, but the attacking options remain the same. In the blue corner, how will Lampard line Chelsea up? Will youth get a chance to shine? 1-1

DH: Will Maguire have the ‘Van Dijk effect’ on United’s defence? Reds fans will hope so and, after a free-scoring pre-season, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea will put that Reds back line to the test. 1-2
