BRYAN HUGHES wants to be spoilt for choice when it comes to naming his starting XI for tomorrow's crunch play-off clash with Eastleigh at The Racecourse.
With Wrexham already guaranteed a home preliminary round tie, Hughes took the opportunity to rest key players for Saturday's 2-1 win over Harrogate which meant the Reds finished fourth in the National League.
The likes of Player of the Season Rob Lainton and captain Shaun Pearson are set to return against the Spitfires, midfielder Brad Walker, who picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on March 9, is back in training and could come into contention while striker Mike Fondop has returned from a loan spell at Maidenhead.
Hughes was impressed with players who were given a chance to stake their claim for a shirt against Harrogate and he has welcomed having plenty of options for the play-offs.
"I want to have as many bodies as I can to call upon," said Hughes.
"Whether people find themselves on the bench or out of the squad, that is my problem to deal with.
"I just want personnel around that we can call upon.
"This is a critical stage of the season now. All the hard work that has gone on over the 46 games comes down to these next couple of weeks now.
"Everyone has played a part and everyone deserves credit.
"They have bought into everything that I have tried to do since I have come into the club - every single player."
Jason Oswell scored his first Wrexham goal against Harrogate and after Christian Dibble, making a rare appearance in place of Lainton, saved a penalty, substitute Nicky Deverdics grabbed a second half winner.
Hughes felt a lot of players made the most of their chance in the side and have given the Reds boss food for thought.
"You look at the team on Saturday, a lot of changes and personnel coming up with the goods," said Hughes.
"Nicky has waited for his opportunity and he got the winning goal.
"We don't know what is going to happen during training. If we pick up niggles or injuries, people have got to be ready and that was my thought process on Saturday to give people minutes just in case."
First year pro Doug Tharme made just his fourth appearance of the season at centre-back and there was a first league start for midfielder Matty Sargent, while fellow scholar Jack Thorn appeared as a late substitute.
Hughes, who came through the youth ranks at The Racecourse himself, heaped praise on Tharme and Sargent following assured performances.
"Matty made his first team debut at 17-years-old against a play-off team in Harrogate and he didn't look out of place," said Hughes. "I thought he was absolutely magnificent, and Doug as well.
"Doug had his debut before but didn't look out of place; a very strong, solid performance.
"A lot of credit has got to go to Dan Nolan at the academy. He has worked with these players, especially Sargent and Thorn, this year.
"I speak to Dan on a day to day basis, I keep an eye on them and get them over with the first team training.
"Since day one they have always caught my eye and obviously being an ex-player here coming through the system, it gave me a chance to play them with the play-offs guaranteed and a home game midweek.
"It gave me a chance to rest a few senior players and have a look at Sargent and Thorn, and Sargent excelled."
