A PLANT sale held at St Mary’s Church in Chirk helped to raise £900 for the upkeep of the churchyard.
St Mary’s Churchyard Volunteer Group held the event on Saturday, June 5, and welcomed members of the community and visitors to the area.
The well-received plant sale is just one of the many acts carried out by the volunteer group recently.
A spokesman for the group explained how the group has kept busy in recent weeks as restrictions have eased.
They said: “Recently the team made a raised bed in the churchyard for Sunday club children.
“Sarah Wilkinson will lead fun sessions to sew, plant and learn about growing flowers for bees and butterflies and vegetables/fruit to eat.
“Sessions are held fortnightly at 11am on Sunday mornings.
“Volunteers have also created a lavender hedge which will attract insects and will be highly scented for visitors to enjoy.”
Volunteers have also been working hard to keep the churchyard looking pleasant by planting new flowers and keeping the area tidy.
