MS for Wrexham

As Wrexham AFC prepare for life in League 2 next season, a local author has published his book, eight years in the making, which documents the club’s glorious history.

In his third book entitled ‘Dirty Old Town’, lifelong Wrexham AFC fan Nathan Lee Davies looks back at the club’s first spell in the Football League between 1921 and 2008. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The book includes match reports, season summaries, statistics and interviews with club legends such as Arfon Griffiths and Joey Jones. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

I recently visited Nathan to purchase my copy. The book is a real labour of love and a must have for fans new and old. Details about how you can order yours can be found online – just visit www.nathanleedavies.com

This year marked ten years of the St David Awards, the highest accolades the Welsh Government can bestow. The awards reflect and celebrate the aspirations of Wales and its citizens, offering the ideal opportunity to raise the profile of people in the community.

It was a pleasure attending this year’s ceremony and to praise those unsung heroes who do exceptional things day in day out.

The impact National Lottery funding has in Wrexham cannot be overstated. It provides a valuable lifeline to local groups and organisations that ultimately work to make a positive difference to the lives of local people.

A variety of grassroots causes and community projects, including Groundwork North Wales, Marford and Gresford Luncheon club and Adoption UK have shared almost £435,000 since February.

There are a wide range of National Lottery funding programmes but the vast majority of local applications are for the Awards for All scheme, which offers smaller amounts ranging between £300 and £10,000. Groups can also bid for larger grants, such as People and Places which could award up to £500,000 to successful applicants.

Although the number of applications coming from Wrexham is healthy, I hope even more local causes will benefit in future.
