A MAIN road in Flintshire has been closed by police following a crash. 

North Wales Police have confirmed that an RTC has occurred on Chester Road, Hawarden between the turnings for Rake Lane and Station Road. 

The road has been closed by police, who say it will remain closed "for a while".

Members of the public and motorists have been asked to avoid the area. Traffic is starting to build in the area. 

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said:" Following a road traffic collision on Chester Road, Hawarden - between turnings for Rake Lane and Station Road, Sandycroft - the road is currently shut and will be for a while.

"Please avoid the area for the time being. Thank you in advance for your co-operation."

North Wales Police issued an update shortly after 11am, confirming that they were in attendance at a four vehicle RTC in Hawarden, involving a HGV, minibus, a car and a van. 

Colleagues from North Wales Fire and Rescue, Welsh Ambulance Service and air ambulance are also in attendance.

A spokesperson added: "Shortly before 8.40am this morning, we were called to a report of a four-vehicle road traffic collision on Chester Road, Hawarden, involving a HGV, a minibus a car and a van.

"Police are in attendance, along with colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Welsh Ambulance Service and the air ambulance.

"The road between the turnings for Rake Lane and Station Road, Sandycroft remains closed, and is likely to remain shut for some time.

"Please continue to avoid the area for the time being."
