By Andrew Ranger
MP for Wrexham
This week in Parliament, I was delighted to join Andys Man Club the vital work that they are doing combatting alarming rates of male suicide.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 54, with 1 man taking their lives every 2 hours. Andys Man Club was started after Andrew Roberts sadly took his life at aged 23. His brother-in-law, Luke Ambler started the first Andys Man Club with 9 men in Halifax, with the aim of talking through their issues and helping each other deal with their mental health.
Since beginning 8 years ago, Andys Man Club has grown to over 200 clubs with over 4500 men using the services every week. Men can open up about what is affecting their lives in a safe, non-judgemental and non-clinical environment. The Wrexham club meets at 7pm, every Monday at Rebuild with Hope, Eagles Meadow, Wrexham, LL13 8DG. I would encourage anyone who is struggling or in need of a bit of support to go along, have a brew and a chat in a warm and welcoming environment.
Voting will shortly open in the Great British Market Awards. I was delighted to be able to nominate the Wrexham Monthly Street Market for an award. Our Market is a vital player in our local economy as well as being steeped in our cites tradition and history, and I am pleased to see that tradition showing no signs of slowing down as the monthly market returns to queens square this upcoming weekend.
The consultation on our libraries and resource centres continues with more Have your Say sessions being held across Wrexham across the following weeks and months, our libraries in do so much more than simply putting books on shelfs and are a key source of support for many people in our local community, I would urge everyone to have their say about these vital services through either the paper form or at the in person sessions taking place.
