A FLINTSHIRE pub is doing its good deed this winter by collecting advent calendars and donating them to a children's charity.

Owners of Y Pentan in Mold are thrilled to have collected approximately 150 advent calendars which they are donating to Alder Hey this weekend.

It's the first time the pub, situated on New Street, has launched the initiative, with customers kindly donating advent calendars and a variety of selection boxes to put a smile on someone's face.

Alder Hey Children's Hospital offers invaluable support to young patients and their families during the most unimaginable times. They truly rely on the kindness of others to ensure nobody is left without a smile at Christmas.

Tenants Steph Roberts and Gavin Williams took over the premises, owned by Proper Pubs, in August this year. They're passionate about supporting the local community, and especially strive to donate to the Flintshire Foodbank throughout the year.

Steph said: "We decided on Alder Hey because staff and customers have experienced first-hand their amazing care. It's a cause so close to our hearts.

"We want to thank our customers and local businesses for their kind donations and hopefully we can bring a little happiness to lots of children."

Y Pentan is also one of ten pubs across Wales taking part in this year's defeating loneliness at Christmas campaign.

Customers are being called to spread cheer by writing cards to people facing loneliness and isolation during the winter months. It is running from November 15 until December 15.
