THE COMPANY that own a closed pub in Wrexham say they are in "advanced discussions" with an applicant wanting to take the business on.

The Trevor Arms in Marford closed its doors in July citing the current economic situation.

Former licensee Pratheesh Tharamalingam said a decrease in footfall and decline in sales, meant it was not feasible for trade to continue.

Owners, Star Pubs have been seeking development at the site for a number of years, stating that despite the closure they were looking to secure a "substantial investment" for the Trevor Arms to create an "exceptional new business".

A planning application was submitted to Wrexham Council in September for internal and external alterations.

Their aim is to turn the outdated building into a premium local pub. Inside, the pub will be redecorated throughout. Other upgrades will include a new fitted kitchen, an overhaul of the bar and upgrade of interior. Externally, it will receive a new seating area, signage and lighting to enhance the pub's kerb appeal.

In addition to the refurbishment, Stars Pubs were also on the look out for a new operator to take over and run the Trevor Arms.

There has been little update since the closure in July, but Stars Pubs has confirmed they are in discussions with a potential new operator, with hopes that work will start on the site in early 2025.

A Star Pubs spokesperson said: “We are currently in advanced discussions with an applicant interested in taking on The Trevor Arms and are hoping to start work on site early in the new year.”
