THE FAMILY affected by a "devastating" landslide in the Wrexham area have been "overwhelmed" by the support shown to them.
On Sunday (November 24) Emyr Owens and his son, Endaf Owens' farm in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog was hit by a landslide.
The family, including several children, were evacuated by North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and have since been housed by locals in the area.
The community has rallied around the Owens family, with work ongoing to clear the area following the "devastating" impact, with the aftermath that of a "tsunami" according to Clwyd South MS, Ken Skates.
On Wednesday (November 27) local councillor Trevor Bates set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise money to support the Owens family, after being inundated with messages of support and people wanting to help.
A target of £1,000 was put in place, which was smashed in a matter of hours, the fundraiser was eventually stopped on Wednesday evening, with the total sitting at £3,985.
Cllr Bates told the Leader that the family is "humbled" by the support, but is now seeking some time to themselves in a bid to "rebuild their life".
The Dyffryn Ceiriog councillor said: "The family are just overwhelmed truly, they're humbled and they can't thank people enough.

"The amazing thing was the kids were in school on Monday, they haven't missed a day of school. They're all just getting on with it and the family are determined to just carry on. Emyr is even talking about getting back into the home.
"We're having offers from everywhere and of course everything is free, I and the family really do appreciate it. There are food parcels being regularly delivered, people have just been amazing.
"It's just devastating and it's the worries about what could've been when you see the toys in the yard.
"We appreciate everything people are trying to do, but now the family just need some space to let them get on and rebuild their life. I'm so proud of this community and all the neighbours, and all the offers of support we have had, but now we just need to let the family settle."
