A SUPERMARKET giant has today (Wednesday, November 27) confirmed the opening of its highly anticipated new store in Flintshire.
Lidl is opening a new store on the High Street in Connah’s Quay on Thursday, December 5. It is replacing the existing store in Queensferry, which has served the community for nearly three decades. The company said the new store brings an upgraded shopping experience to local residents.
To mark the occasion there will be a festive carol service and ribbon-cutting ceremony, with pupils from the local Ysgol Bryn Deva Primary School taking part.
The new store, open 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sundays, is 25 per cent larger with a sales area of 1,256m². This bigger and better store now includes Lidl’s renowned bakery, an expanded chiller section, and improved car parking.
The new store still includes the beloved Middle of Lidl, as well as customer toilets with baby changing facilities. Shoppers can also look forward to Lidl Plus offers and complimentary food sampling throughout the reopening weekend.

This multi-million-pound investment brings more than just an enhanced shopping experience, it has also created a handful of new jobs, whilst colleagues from the old store will transfer to the new location.
Stuart Jardine, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our new store here in Connah’s Quay. Not only is this store bigger and better than our Queensferry site, but it’s also in a fantastic location within the town, making it even easier for shoppers to access our high-quality products at unbeatable prices.
"As we approach the festive season, we’re excited to welcome customers old and new to enjoy our enhanced offering, including all their favourite Lidl Christmas treats. We’re confident the community will be as delighted with the new store as we are.”
This year also marks Lidl’s 30th anniversary in Great Britain, underscoring three decades of providing shoppers with its unbeatable combination of quality and affordability. With more customers choosing to shop at Lidl, the discounter has consistently been named the fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for over a year.
