The winner of Asian Restaurant of the Year from North Wales has been announced at a recent awards evening.
The winners of this year’s Asian Curry Awards – dubbed the “Curry Oscars” were announced at a glittering gala dinner and presentation attended by 1,200 VIP guests on Sunday, November 17.
Held at the Grosvenor House in London’s Mayfair, the evening was hosted by BBC news anchor Samantha Simmonds with honourable guest speakers including the Parliamentary Minister for Business and Trade Sarah Jones MP, and Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Rushanara Ali MP.
The award winners were chosen from all over the UK by the Asian Catering Federation’s esteemed panel of judges from a list of finalists voted for by the spice loving public.
The winner of Asian Restaurant of the Year from North Wales was Maahis in Wrexham.
Black Peppers, also from Wrexham made the final shortlist, but were pipped to the prize by the curry house based on the A483 in Wrexham.
The awards cover fine dining, casual dining, street food, and the complete range of Asian and Oriental cuisines.

Yawar Khan, chairman of the Asian Catering Federation said: “It is with immense pride that we present these awards each year.
"The success of every business here tonight is down to the passion, determination and culinary talent that drives this industry forward.
"Congratulations to all tonight’s winners and huge thanks to everyone who invests in our industry which continues to contribute billions to the UK economy each year despite the challenging economic climate.”
The 14th Asian Curry Awards and Asian Catering Federation Gala Dinner was sponsored by Cobra Beer, Kingfisher Beer and Work Permit Cloud Ltd.
The event was organised by the Asian Catering Federation (ACF) which represents the nation’s 35,000 caterers in the UK and together generate over £60bn for the UK economy.
