THE COMMUNITY response to a "devastating" landslide at a farm in Wrexham has brought tears to the eyes of the local councillor.
On Saturday afternoon, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) was called to a landslide incident at a farm in the Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog area.
The family, which included several children, were evacuated and have been housed by locals in the area.
Cllr Trevor Bates confirmed that the family suffered no major injuries during the incident and have been "overwhelmed with the support".
He told the Leader: "Thankfully the family is safe, and have been housed locally by local people. There are minor injuries but nothing major thankfully.
"There are two houses together, one for the son and one for the parents. There were other family members over at the time and five children easily could’ve been washed away.
"Having seen the devastation yesterday, it’s tough. It’s devastating, there's big holes ripped in the ground, and there is so much silt in the buildings.
"There is a tree through one end of the house, the damage washed the vehicle down the drive and big chunks of concrete were ripped out of the road.
"They’re (family) strong characters, very strong characters and are overwhelmed with the support."
Cllr Bates was also full of praise for the local community's response to the incident, stating that other residents "dropped everything" to help the affected family.
The rallying community has even reduced Cllr Bates to tears, he added: "The community has been brilliant, it brings tears to your eyes.
"Six people turned up with JCB’s and loaders to try make it accessible, to let the families get their life back on track.
"Locals were there within minutes, helping sort the cattle as they were fearing the worst.
"Fantastic community, people have dropped everything and gone to help their neighbour.
"Thank God nobody was hurt, we were lucky."

A NWFRS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 13:53 and five crews - one from Llangollen, Ruthin and Johnstown and two from Wrexham - attended a landslide incident in the Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog area.
"Firefighters assisted occupants from a property affected which was flooded with water and debris.
"The property has sustained substantial damage due to the force of the landslide.
"There remains significant flooding in the area, and we are advising people to ensure they adhere to local road closures and keep up-to-date on flood warnings."
