Broughton Shopping Park has called on the community to help spread festive cheer this Christmas.

The company has teamed up with Age Connects North East Wales and Age UK Cheshire to launch the 'Merry Mailbox' scheme.

This aims to collect Christmas cards filled with warm wishes to distribute to older community members who may feel isolated during the festive season.

Residents are encouraged to write their messages in a Christmas card and post it in an unsealed, blank envelope in the 'Merry Mailbox'.

Posting the card is free, and no stamps are required.

Alan Pruden-Barker, centre manager at Broughton Shopping Park, said: "While Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for many of us, sadly for some in our community it can feel isolating.

"It’s our visitors who make Christmas so special for us here at Broughton, so we know we can count on them to spread some festive cheer to those who need it most.

"We hope our 'Merry Mailbox' will help to bring a few more smiles over the seasonal period and make sure no one feels alone."

Maria Heron, deputy CEO at Age Connects North East Wales, said: "Christmas is an especially busy time for us, helping older people who might not have a support network over the colder months.

"The 'Merry Mailbox' is a lovely initiative, and we know from the work we do that it will bring some well-needed extra Christmas cheer to our clients in the Flintshire and Wrexham communities.

"We’re very excited to be involved."

Christine McMahon, head of services at Age UK Cheshire, added: "We know that over two million older people across the UK say they feel lonely at Christmas and for many, it can often be the most isolating time of the year.

"That’s why we’re so pleased to partner with Broughton on the 'Merry Mailbox' initiative, to be able to share cards from people in the community with our members to help them feel more connected this Christmas."

Unsealed cards can be posted into the special post box, located at the entrance to the Centre Management Suite, from now until December 15.
