A ROAD closure in place due to a "structurally unsafe" Flintshire pub could last three months, the council has warned.

The section of the road which has been closed backs on to the former Dolphin Inn and Hotel - which sits on the High Street. 

A notice issued by Flintshire Council said it was to "facilitate scaffolding supporting a structurally unsafe building".

The notice states that the road will be closed for at least 21 days. However, it could last up to three months.

A Flintshire Council spokesperson said: "Clayton Road in Mold has been closed between its junctions with Bryn Garmon and B5444 Upper High Street.

“Following a report from representatives of the owner of the building of structural damage to the gable wall, the road has been closed for safety reasons.

“The road will remain closed until the necessary repairs have been completed. It is estimated that this may take up to three months to complete.”

The Dolphin Inn and Hotel is Grade II listed. It was first built as a hotel in 1869, before becoming a pub. It closed its doors as a pub in 2015. 

In recent years, Theatr Clwyd-associated theatre performances have taken place at the site.
