In Flintshire there is no shortage of takeaway delivery options.

However, if you're looking for something other than pizza, a chippy tea, Indian or Chinese food, then the options are fewer.

I wanted to find out if it was possible to order a restaurant quality meal for two to be delivered to my home in Flintshire.

Having a look on the Just Eat app I found a listing for Likya Mediterranean Restaurant in Flint.

As well as pizzas and kebabs, there were lots of dishes, such as guvech, moussaka, and karniyarik, that appealed to me and my dining companion.

We decided to share a starter.

Having discovered the deliciousness of borek during a recent visit to the Old Bank Cafe in Queensferry, I made a case for choosing it.

The peynirli borek from Likya were delightfully light pastry parcels filled with moreish, melted feta cheese and parsley.

Essentially a large, cheesy spring roll, the three provided were plenty to divide between two as a starter.

The tangy dipping sauce provided cut through the richness of the cheese and pastry perfectly.

For the main course I opted for the lamb shank.

Having had a similar dish at the Taverna Harrogate that was outstanding in its depth of flavour, it was an easy choice for me.

The shank, which came wrapped in foil, was generous and tender.

However, the tomato-based stew on the description that the shank was supposedly slow-cooked in was absent.

This may have been because I chose the optional extra of homemade onion gravy. If this was instead of the stew rather than in addition to it, then it is a mistake I wouldn't repeat. However, the gravy was very good.

The mashed potato that came with the dish was also very good, fluffy and creamy and a great accompaniment to the lamb and gravy.

The dish also came with boiled rice and salad. I felt that with the potato, the rice was not needed. The salad too felt like something that would come with a kebab rather than a restaurant meal. I would have preferred a serving of roasted vegetables or asparagus, as I feel this would add some colour and texture to the strong elements of the lamb and potato.

Each of the mains came in a sturdy container, with separate compartments for each element. It is probably the best takeaway packaging I've experienced.

My friend opted for the chicken guvech (stew). The chicken was tender, and the Mediterranean vegetables were tasty and were firm enough to remain interesting rather than being lost to the stew, which was flavoursome and delicious.

ROOM FOR MORE?

The garlic bread that accompanied the stew was one of the best we have tasted. We would've enjoyed more of it rather than the rice and salad that came with this dish as it had with the lamb.

On to dessert.

We chose baklava and honeycomb.

The baklava were flaky, sticky sweet, and indulgent as they should be.

The honeycomb was a slice of cheesecake-type dessert that was as you would expect.

Having recently been introduced to the wonder of cheesecake baklava, again at Taverna Harrogate, I feel that in hindsight we should've combined our desserts.

Recalculated the starter so it is for one person, my three-course meal came to just less than £30.

I feel this is really good value for a takeaway that is a little bit different from the norm.

Likya also delivers wine and beers, so for an extra £20 or so we could have added a bottle of wine to enhance the restaurant at home experience.

All in all, the quality and range of dishes offered by Likya is very good.

Good enough that I hope to dine at the restaurant itself as I suspect the home delivery was but a taste, albeit a delicious one, of what can be found within its walls.
