A WREXHAM-based taxi company operating for almost 60-years has won a prestigious award.
Apollo Taxi's was founded 57-years-ago by Barry Jones, and is now owned by his proud son, Wayne and wife Andrea.
On Tuesday, November 19 the company was honoured to be named 'Best in Wales' in this year's Taxi Summit UK & Ireland Industry Awards. The team travelled to the Blackpool Ballroom Tower to receive their prize.
The awards celebrate the achievements of leading industry fleets and suppliers, recognising their hard work which continues to drive the industry forward.
The Wrexham company employs over 100 people, most who have worked loyally for 30-40 years alongside Wayne, his wife Andrea and their family.
"This is a big one for us", he said. "I mean the scale of this industry and these awards - it's a huge operation, especially since the likes of Uber got involved.
"We've never claimed to be the best, but this is a huge win for Wrexham. The town, or now city, is something we're so passionate about. It's so much more than just a company for us, and to actually be officially recognised for our efforts shows the kind of strength and power Wrexham is beginning to have in North Wales."
The taxi industry suffered hugely post Covid across the UK, and Wayne admits it was a struggle.
"Luckily we came through it, but it was a tough time", he says.
"The awards look at all aspects of the company before making a decision. We have so many loyal workers and that's important. We're a team and we do so much for charities, specifically for the homeless, across the city."

The company, which opened in 1967, moved into its existing office on Charles Street in 2016, and has since been transformed into an inviting and modern space.
It has previously won the Outstanding Customer Awards (twice) and the Special Recognition Award from The Lion's Rotary Club for their outstanding contribution to charity.
This award is the icing on the cake for Wayne and his dedicated team who are passionate about the community of Wrexham and ensuring that businesses continue to thrive despite the economic climate.
Congratulations to Apollo!
