A "BULLY" from Wrexham who assaulted his partner in a pub before crashing his car into a taxi has been jailed.

Frederick Jegou, of Maplehurst Close, Rhostyllen, appeared before Mold Crown Court on Monday (November 18) for sentencing.

The 70-year-old had previously admitted breaching a restraining order, two counts of assault and careless driving.

John Wyn Williams, prosecuting, said that the defendant had been in a relationship with Sharon Swift for about two years. In May 2023, Jegou was issued with a restraining order not to contact Miss Swift having assaulted her.

The court heard that in October 2023, Jegou approached Miss Swift in Wrexham city centre saying that he still loved her. They began to see each other on a on-and-off basis - and Jegou would appear at her home address if she didn't agree to see him.

On June 26, 2024, at about 8.45am the defendant collected Miss Swift and they went to the Acton Park pub in Wrexham. Whilst in the pub, Miss Swift asked Jegou if he was "hanging around" Wrexham city centre, to which the defendant denied before throwing a drink over her.

Miss Swift left the pub, and Jegou followed her outside. Once outside, Miss Swift was crying and called the defendant a "bully". A member of staff at the pub put himself between Jegou and Miss Swift - who was escorted back inside. The defendant continued to try and re-enter the pub, managing to run back inside and hit Miss Swift on the back.

Later that day, at about 2pm, Miss Swift was taken home via a taxi. Shortly after she arrived, a red Vauxhall Insignia being driven by the defendant was driven "straight into" the taxi. She then saw him standing outside the property on her Ring doorbell camera. Jegou initially was charged with dangerous driving, which he denied. However, this was lowered to the less serious charge of careless driving which he pleaded guilty to.

Miss Swift said in a victim personal statement that she feels "scared" for own safety, and leaving her home address - not wanting to visit Wrexham city centre.

Defending, Myles Wilson, said that the 'on-off' relationship that the defendant had with Miss Swift went without "major incident" until June 26.

He said that Miss Swift initiated the argument, and that Jegou "completely lost his temper and overreacted". Mr Wilson said Miss Swift didn't suffer physically injury, and the taxi suffered very minor damage, and that the defendant "realises he's been an idiot".

Judge Rhys Rowlands jailed Jegou for 18 months.
