Residents have transformed a neglected alleyway in Connah's Quay.

The initiative started when a group of residents got in touch with Flintshire County Council about the untidiness of the alleyway.

Their determination led to the creation of a constituted group, and plans include applying for external funding to maintain and improve the area.

The project took a step forward when Keep Wales Tidy and Keep Flintshire Tidy organised a community clean-up day.

They had the help of volunteers, including Flint Litter Pickers, residents, and the local county councillor.

Using Keep Wales Tidy’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the team removed and got rid of a huge amount of waste.

Wayne Jones, a resident involved in the project, said: "Once we all got together, created our aims and goals, the actual work was achieved quickly.

"We are in the process of finalising the group and have set up a Facebook page to help build local support and gain momentum.

"We wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of this without Keep Wales Tidy and Flintshire County Council."

Councillor Glyn Banks, cabinet member for streetscene and transportation, said: "It’s amazing what can happen when a community comes together.

"We wish the best to the residents involved in this project and hope others will join their efforts to keep the area clean and welcoming."

The group has since had donations from members of the public and has been approached by other organisations interested in working together on a future project.
